Derek Edmond Drums and Backing Vocals Derek has a wealth of drumming experience. Turning professional in the late 60’s he recorded with MGM and Polydor playing Soul, Rock and prog Rock. During this time he supported acts such as Jimi Hendrix, Rory Gallagher, Jeff beck, Yes and The Faces. He also played seasons at The Playboy Club in London, and appeared in the World Premiere of ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ at the London Hilton. He spent time in various clubs in Frankfurt, Berlin, Cologne, Munich and Hamburg Derek now plays all genres including rock, blues, soul, disco, jazz and fusion. Derek has appeared with a number of local acts such as Platform Soul, Crush, The Innocents, Cloud 9, Jazbo, Mr Kite, Total Eclipse and Bladerunner as well as many other one off dep jobs. He has also worked in Musical Shows at the MK Theatre, Stantonbury Theatre and Chrysalis Theatre and was the house band drummer for the MK Dons stadium opening by the Queen. Derek has been teaching drums for 10 years to students attaining Trinity Guildhall and Rockschool graded exams as well as leisure students. His drumming influences range from Mitch Mitchell through Bill Bruford, Dennis Chambers and Bill Edwards. Derek is capable of adapting to many styles but his own taste leans toward Jazz and fusion Derek plays live with a DW Collectors kit, Zildjian, UFIP and TRX cymbals. He also uses a Roland TD10 and Yamaha Absolute Custom kit for teaching. Derek believes that it’s not necessarily about the chops and speed you can play – it’s really all about the spaces – let the music breathe.
